Lindsey: Let's watch 'Rebel Without A Cause,' because its the most overtly gay? It has two queer actors, a queer director, AND a coded gay character.
Me: Um duh. That's actually the only James Dean movie I've seen, but it's one of my favourite movies. My dad made me watch it when I was a kid. That and John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies. And Indiana Jones.... Now I know why I'm attracted to the guys I'm attracted to.
Lindsey: There's also 'East of Eden,' which had a scene cut by the movie board for being "incestuous and homoerotic" thanks to James gaying it up hardcore with his on-screen brother. That scene was burned, though. And 'Giant,' which features supergay Rock Hudson and honorary gay, Liz Taylor.
Me: We do love Liz Taylor.
Lindsey: Apparently there was a massive feud between Rock Hudson and James Dean, and no one really knows why. I speculate that they couldn't agree on who as more gay. Who liked anal sex more, etc.
Me: I bet Liz was the ultimate mediator. She probably watched them have angry, gay sex with score cards in hand.
Lindsey: You're very right. I'm serious when I say that James and Rock LOATHED each other, and Liz was definitely the go-between. Who knows what caused the rift to be so obvious, though. It might have been sexual tension, but Rock was too discrete for that. He was very, very secretive in the beginning.
Me: As I listen to "Sexual Eruption" with Robyn and Snoop Dog...
